Microscale investigation of perovskite-Ti3AlC strengthening and plastic deformation in high niobium containing TiAl alloys

Mingao Li et al.

Summary: The study shows that dispersive perovskite-Ti3AlC can strengthen TiAl alloys and contribute to better plastic deformation and elongation in high niobium containing TiAl alloys. Transmission electron microscopy and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy reveal the dislocation gliding and twinning mechanism during plastic deformation, as well as the relationship between perovskite-Ti3AlC and the neighboring matrix phase.

Effects of Cr alloying on the evolution of solidification microstructure and phase transformations of high-Nb containing γ-TiAl based alloys

Vajinder Singh et al.

Summary: The evolution of as-solidified microstructures and phase stability during high-temperature exposure of Ti-45Al base alloys with alloying elements Nb, Cr, and B were analyzed. It was found that Nb, Cr, and B can be effective grain size refiners, but strong Cr partitioning significantly slows down the kinetics of beta-phase decomposition.

Growth velocity and microhardness dependences of intermetallic compound phases on solubility range during peritectic solidification

Peng Peng et al.

Summary: The relationship between the solidification characteristics of intermetallic compound phases (IMCs) and the growth behavior of secondary branches has been investigated. The study found that solid phases with larger solubility ranges tend to have larger growth velocity of secondary branches under the same growth conditions. Additionally, the microhardness of IMCs is also dependent on the growth velocity and their solubility range.

Influence of Nb on Ti diffusion in γ-TiAl intermetallics studied by mechanical spectroscopy

J. Ibanez-Perez et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the hindering effect of Nb on the diffusion of Ti atoms in the α(2)-Ti3Al phase through mechanical spectroscopy measurements, with the activation energy increasing with Nb content. The mechanism of next-neighbor interaction of Nb atoms with the local configuration of Ti-V-Ti is proposed to explain the observed experimental behavior, leading to a further broadening of the relaxation peak.

Hot tensile behavior of a TiAl alloy with a (β0 + γ) microduplex microstructure prepared simply by heat treatments

Liang Cheng et al.

Summary: A (β(0) + γ) microduplex microstructure was prepared in a Ti-42Al-8.5V alloy by quenching-tempering treatments, showing near-superplastic creep behavior at high temperatures. The high elongations were attributed to crystal rotation and fragmentation due to plastic flow and recrystallization. The γ platelets globularized/coarsened during deformation, leading to significant orientation divergence.
