Catalyst-free synthesis of phenolic-resin-based carbon nanospheres for simultaneous electrochemical detection of Cu (II) and Hg (II)

Wei Xiong et al.

Summary: In this study, monodisperse and uniform carbon nanospheres were used for the electrochemical detection of heavy metal ions. By introducing a surfactant and other metal ions, the simultaneous and individual detection of Cu2+ and Hg2+ was achieved with excellent performance. The results demonstrate a new approach for highly selective and sensitive electrochemical detection of heavy metal ions by adding a minor concentration of additional ions.

Summary: Ce3+ and Tb3+ co-doped ZnS quantum dots were synthesized through a simple wet chemical method. The effect of Tb3+ concentration on the structural and optical properties of the co-doped QDs was thoroughly investigated. The energy transfer process was enhanced by the doping with Ce3+ and was dominated by dipole-dipole interaction. The co-doped QDs exhibited long decay times and potential applications in photovoltaic, photocatalysis, and biosensing.

Hydrophilic AgInZnS quantum dots as a fluorescent turn-on probe for Cd2+ detection

Yongfeng Liu et al.

Summary: This study reports a one-step aqueous synthesis of more benign and hydrophilic AgInZnS quantum dots as a fluorescent probe for the detection of Cd2+ in aqueous solutions, with a detection range of 0.1-290 mu M and a lower limit of detection of 37.8 nM. The excellent turn-on detection of Cd2+ is attributed to the passivation of surface defects on the AgInZnS quantum dots by Cd2+, resulting in a prolonged fluorescent lifetime and increased photoluminescence quantum yield. Additionally, the AgInZnS quantum dot probe is capable of detecting Cd2+ in lake water samples and meets the WHO standard.
