Multiaxial plane-strain forging and rolling of biomedical grade titanium: Evolution of microstructure, texture, and mechanical properties

Devesh Kumar Chouhan et al.

Summary: Multi-axial plane-strain forging and rolling were applied to biomedical grade titanium polycrystal billets to achieve equiaxed nanostructure and prismatic fiber texture. The material exhibited significant enhancement in ambient strength and high formability due to optimized dislocation substructure and high strain-hardening exponent.

Grain-refining and strengthening mechanisms of bulk ultrafine grained CP-Ti processed by L-ECAP and MDF

Peng-Cheng Zhao et al.

Summary: The microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of ultrafine-grained CP-Ti were systematically examined after large-volume equal channel angular pressing (L-ECAP) and multi-directional forging (MDF). The grain size distribution conformed to lognormal distribution, with iron impurities promoting recrystallization during L-ECAP. The strain hardening rate of CP-Ti increased with decreasing grain size, while the continuous strain hardening ability decreased.
