First-principles calculation of the effect of Mn element on the solid solubility of C in α-Fe

Hui Wang et al.

Summary: The mechanical and chemical properties of alloy materials strongly depend on their chemical composition. Mn plays a crucial role as an essential alloying element, affecting the solid solubility of C in the alpha-Fe matrix. The interaction between Mn and C atoms in alpha-Fe results in an attractive force between them at close distances, gradually decreasing as distance increases.
