A comperative experimental study between the film effectiveness of trench and diffusion film holes

Sainathkaushik Balaji et al.

Summary: Gas turbine airfoils are often subjected to high temperature gases in order to extract maximum power. Film cooling holes and trenches are used as a solution to protect the airfoil surfaces. This study found that the compound-angle-trench geometry produced the highest film cooling effectiveness, especially in both streamwise and spanwise directions, with a blowing ratio of 1 being the optimum value for the best distribution of film effectiveness.

Large eddy simulation of an inclined jet in crossflow with vortex generators

Zhiyuan Zhao et al.

Summary: The study on film cooling with delta winglet vortex generator pair (DWVGP) shows that vortical structures have a significant impact on film cooling effectiveness in the flow field of a jet in crossflow (JICF). The DWVGP evolved anti-CRVP allows for earlier reattachment of coolant and achieves enhanced film cooling effectiveness in the spanwise direction.

Numerical comparison of saw-tooth plasma actuators for film cooling flow control over a flat plate

Guozhan Li et al.

Summary: Large eddy simulations were conducted to study film cooling efficiency of an inclined round jet in crossflow with and without a saw-tooth plasma actuator (STPA). Results show that the STPA may not always be advantageous to film cooling. When the tip of the STPA is located at the centerline, it can enhance film cooling efficiency by inducing coolant outward along the wall and promoting the spanwise-coverage of the coolant through anti-counter rotating vortex pair (CRVP).
