Exploring untapped potential of Streptomyces spp. in Gurbantunggut Desert by use of highly selective culture strategy

Shuai Li et al.

Summary: This study utilized culture-dependent and culture-independent approaches to explore Streptomyces communities in desert sandy soils, revealing low abundance of Streptomyces in the samples but high percentage obtained through culture-dependent methods. A total of 1589 pure cultures were isolated, dominated by Streptomyces, with 400 potential new species identified, including 48 belonging to the Streptomyces genus. The highly selective SCP strategy significantly expanded the number and phylotypes of Streptomyces spp. compared to the CCP strategy.
