Temperature dependent deformation localization in irradiated tungsten

Zhijie Li et al.

Summary: Tungsten, as the plasma-facing material in nuclear fusion devices, exhibits plasticity with strong temperature dependence and non-Schmid effect, but the influence of these features on irradiated tungsten behavior is not well understood. A crystal plasticity model has been developed to study this, showing that post-irradiation mechanical tests at room temperature may underestimate deformation localization, while thermal-activated dislocation mobility in low temperatures may lead to short-term deformation without clear dislocation channels.

In-situ TEM investigation of 30 keV he+ irradiated tungsten: Effects of temperature, fluence, and sample thickness on dislocation loop evolution

Yipeng Li et al.

Summary: In situ irradiations on tungsten revealed that pre-existing dislocation lines have a profound effect on the size, density and Burgers vector of dislocation loops. The interaction between high density helium clusters can stimulate the formation of <100> loops, while the reaction of two 1/2<111> loop variants driven by long-time and elevated temperature irradiation is also a driving force for <100> loop formation.

Shock response of He bubble in single crystal tungsten: molecular dynamics simulation study

Yuanfang Lu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the shock response of He bubbles in single crystal W using nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulations. It is found that He bubbles with high He-vacancy ratio are more stable and exhibit plastic deformation mode by emitting a [100] vacancy type of prismatic dislocation loop. Analyzing the results from the perspective of elasticity theory, the distribution of resolved shear stresses on the bubble surface is identified as the key factor controlling the formation of vacancy type prismatic dislocation loops, and the decrease in resolved shear stress with an increase in He-vacancy ratio stabilizes the He bubble.

Molecular dynamics simulation of primary radiation damage in W-Ta alloys: Effect of tantalum

Rongyang Qiu et al.

Summary: The study uses molecular dynamics simulations to investigate displacement cascades and defect evolution in pure tungsten and tungsten-tantalum alloy systems at different temperatures. The presence of tantalum atoms affects the defect migration speed and type, but does not significantly impact defect quantity and ratio.

In-situ TEM observation and MD simulation of the reaction and transformation of <100> loops in tungsten during H 2+ & He+ dual-beam irradiation

Yifan Ding et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that the interaction between low mobility <100> loops and irradiation process leads to the formation of 1/2 <111> loops. Molecular dynamics simulations suggest that this reaction requires specific loop positions and high temperatures. The increase in irradiation fluence affects the average size and areal number density of <100> loops.
