Bartosz Wilczynski et al.

Summary: Nowadays, finding effective ways to treat cancer and understanding drug resistance phenomenon are crucial in the field of medicine. This article focuses on the role of chloride channels, particularly VRAC and CLC chloride channels, in multidrug resistance (MDR) and the transport of anti-cancer drugs. It highlights the importance of researching and developing new medicines to overcome drug resistance mechanisms.

Mitochondrial Kv1.3 Channels as Target for Treatment of Multiple Myeloma

Stephanie Kadow et al.

Summary: Kv1.3 channels are identified as a potential therapeutic target for multiple myeloma. The mitochondria-specific Kv1.3 inhibitors, PAPTP and PCARBTP, effectively kill myeloma cells while sparing healthy bone marrow cells. Combination with the BCL-2 inhibitor venetoclax shows a synergistic effect.

Optimized flow cytometric detection of transient receptor potential vanilloid-1 (TRPV1) in human hematological malignancies

Sofia A. Omari et al.

Summary: The ectopic overexpression of TRPV1 has been detected in various solid cancers, and here we show that it is also increased in hematological malignancies. We provide an optimized flow cytometry method to assess TRPV1 protein expression in cell lines and patient samples, and found that TRPV1 is overexpressed in acute monocytic leukemia and multiple myeloma. TRPV1 expression was also observed in B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and other hematological malignancies.

Emerging Roles for Ion Channels in Ovarian Cancer: Pathomechanisms and Pharmacological Treatment

Concetta Altamura et al.

Summary: Ion channels contribute significantly to the development and progression of ovarian cancer (OC) and may serve as potential targets for treatment. Overexpression of voltage-gated and epithelial sodium channels is associated with cancer proliferation and invasion, while potassium, calcium, chloride, and transient receptor potential channels play critical roles in OC by affecting cell cycle, apoptosis, and drug sensitivity. Understanding the expression and function of ion channels in OC can provide insights for tumor diagnosis and treatment.

Targeted Therapies for Skeletal Muscle Ion Channelopathies: Systematic Review and Steps Towards Precision Medicine

Jean-Francois Desaphy et al.

Summary: This systematic review examined the effects of pharmacological treatments on muscle ion channelopathies, focusing on the association between treatments and genetic background. It found therapeutic benefits of certain drugs in non-dystrophic myotonias and periodic paralyses, but highlighted the need for personalized treatments based on different mutations. More human studies are required to establish mutation-driven precision medicine for these conditions.
