Growth factors for treating chronic venous leg ulcers: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Yung Lee et al.

Summary: Growth factor treatments for VLU can promote complete wound healing and increase the percent reduction in wound area, but there is no significant difference in adverse event rates. Most comparisons have low certainty of evidence based on the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation.

A prospective clinical trial evaluating changes in the wound microenvironment in patients with chronic venous leg ulcers treated with a hypothermically stored amniotic membrane

John P. McQuilling et al.

Summary: Amniotic tissues have been used to treat chronic wounds, but few studies have evaluated how the wound microenvironment responds to these therapies. This study found that wounds treated with hypothermically stored amniotic membrane (HSAM) achieved significant reduction in size and re-epithelialization. Proteomic analysis showed specific protein level changes in wounds on a healing trajectory.

The Role of T Lymphocytes in Cutaneous Scarring

Walker D. Short et al.

Summary: Research indicates that the immune system plays a crucial role in the formation of cutaneous scarring, particularly T cells and their cytokines. Despite ongoing progress in the field, there is minimal advancement in modulating immune responses to enhance overall aesthetic outcomes of wound healing.

Risk-of-bias VISualization (robvis): An R package and Shiny web app for visualizing risk-of-bias assessments

Luke A. McGuinness et al.

Summary: Despite the availability of numerous software options for evidence synthesis, there is currently no universal tool for generating figures to display and explore risk-of-bias assessments. However, tools such as the R programming environment and Shiny have made it easy to create new tools for producing evidence syntheses. The new tool robvis facilitates the rapid production of publication-quality risk-of-bias assessment figures and is available as an R package and web app.

Cytokines: From Clinical Significance to Quantification

Chao Liu et al.

Summary: Cytokines play a critical role in regulating immune and inflammatory responses, serving as biomarkers for many diseases. Quantification of cytokines provides valuable insights into physiological and pathological processes for diagnosis and treatment in both clinical medicine and biology. Advances in in vitro and in vivo assays, biosensors, and quantification platforms aim to achieve real-time multiplex cytokine analysis for biomedical research and clinical practice.
