Polyclonal aptamer libraries as binding entities on a graphene FET based biosensor for the discrimination of apo- and holo-retinol binding protein 4

Ann-Kathrin Kissmann et al.

Summary: This article presents the first sensor capable of discriminating between loaded and unloaded retinol-binding protein 4 (RBP4), an important biomarker for predicting diabetes and kidney disease. The sensor utilizes two tuned aptamer libraries to detect RBP4 in both states without the need for further sample labeling.

FluCell-SELEX Aptamers as Specific Binding Molecules for Diagnostics of the Health Relevant Gut Bacterium Akkermansia muciniphila

Heinz Fabian Raber et al.

Summary: This study highlights the development and characterization of DNA aptamers for fast labeling of human gut bacterium Akkermansia muciniphila and their potential impact on Alzheimer's disease. The results demonstrate the universal applicability of aptamers in modern microbiology techniques, including fluorimetry, confocal laser scanning microscopy, and flow cytometry. The findings suggest that these aptamers may have promising prospects for developing novel assays in clinical microbiology and electronic biosensors.

Five Days Periodic Fasting Elevates Levels of Longevity Related Christensenella and Sirtuin Expression in Humans

Stephanie Lilja et al.

Summary: The study found that periodic fasting not only changed the composition of the gut microbiota, making it more diverse, but also affected SIRT expression in humans. Fasting triggered a significant switch in metabolism and increased gut microbiota diversity, showing a significant correlation between SIRT1 gene expression and the abundance of certain bacterial species.

Roseburia intestinalis: A Beneficial Gut Organism From the Discoveries in Genus and Species

Kai Nie et al.

Summary: Roseburia intestinalis, a bacterium that produces butyrate in the colon, has been shown to play a crucial role in preventing intestinal inflammation and maintaining energy homeostasis. Patients with inflammatory bowel disease may benefit from modulating the abundance of R. intestinalis. Recent advancements in research technologies have revealed the therapeutic potential of this bacterium in human health and disease treatment.

Gut Microbiota, Glucose, Lipid, and Water-Electrolyte Metabolism in Children With Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

Xiongfeng Pan et al.

Summary: This case-control study aimed to investigate the role of gut microbiota, especially butyrate-producing bacteria, in children with NAFLD. The results showed that children with NAFLD had dysbiosis in glucose, lipid, and water-electrolyte metabolism, with decreased abundance of beneficial bacteria and increased harmful bacteria in their gut microbiome. This suggests that the gut microbiome composition plays a significant role in the development and severity of NAFLD in children.
