The Peptide A-3302-B Isolated from a Marine Bacterium Micromonospora sp. Inhibits HSV-2 Infection by Preventing the Viral Egress from Host Cells

Sanya Sureram et al.

Summary: The peptide A-3302-B isolated from a marine bacterium, Micromonospora sp., strain MAG 9-7, showed specific inhibitory activity against HSV-2 by reducing cell-to-cell virus spread and transmission of extracellular free virus. It did not affect viral protein expression. The peptide also demonstrated anti-inflammatory activity and efficacy against an acyclovir-resistant HSV-2 strain.

Pathogenesis and virulence of herpes simplex virus

Shuyong Zhu et al.

Summary: HSV-1 and HSV-2 are two of the most prevalent human viruses worldwide, causing a variety of diseases. Immune responses play a key role in controlling HSV, but the virus has developed mechanisms to evade them. The severity of disease upon HSV infection varies among individuals, partly due to genetic polymorphisms. HSV has lytic and latent replication cycles, with the latter leading to disease.
