Allicin protects against renal ischemia-reperfusion injury by attenuating oxidative stress and apoptosis

Maolin Li et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that allicin protects against renal ischemia-reperfusion injury by ameliorating histological damage and reducing oxidative stress in renal tissues. Additionally, allicin was found to regulate the expression of apoptosis-related proteins in both I/R renal tissues and H/R treated NRK-52E cells, suggesting its potential as a novel therapy option for renal injury protection.

Obviation of dyslipidemia by garlic oil and its organosulfur compound, diallyl disulphide, in experimental animals

Syed Mohammed Basheeruddin Asdaq et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of garlic oil (GO) and its active component, diallyl disulphide (DADS), in preventing dyslipidemia in an animal model. The results showed that both GO and DADS treatments significantly improved lipid profiles, liver function markers, and antioxidant levels in comparison to the control group, with GO exhibiting better therapeutic effectiveness. This study suggests that garlic and its active constituents can effectively prevent dyslipidemia and neutralize reactive free radicals induced by a high fat diet.

Qiyun Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of Allicin on PPAR alpha and PPAR gamma signaling pathways, and their relationship with myocardial cell hypertrophy, apoptosis, interstitial remodeling, RAAS activation, and heart failure. The results showed that Allicin can reverse angiotensin II-induced cardiomyocyte hypertrophy and inhibit cardiomyocyte apoptosis. The activation of PPAR alpha and PPAR gamma pathways by Allicin contributes to the protective effects on the heart.
