Summary: Plastic waste transforms into microplastic/nanoplastic (MNPLs), which may carry toxic trace elements. Fruit flies serve as a dynamic in vivo model for genetic and toxicology research. Due to cost and ethical concerns, there is limited in vivo research on nanomaterial genotoxicity in mammals. Therefore, fruit flies are an ideal model for studying the toxic effects of MNPLs.

Summary: The study investigated the toxicity and accumulation patterns of three copper hydroxide-based forms on two terrestrial invertebrates, showing that the nanopesticide had lower effects on both species, with mealworm larvae exhibiting greater resistance and ability to eliminate copper compared to isopods. The differences in toxicity were attributed to slower toxicokinetics by the nanopesticide and lower bioaccumulative potential in isopods.

Summary: The study used Drosophila melanogaster as a model organism to investigate the effects of graphene and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) on cellular immune response, genotoxicity, and biological effects, observing significant effects at high doses (100 and 250 μg/ml). This is the first study to report findings on cellular immune response, nanogenotoxicity, phenotypic variations, and locomotor behavior in D. melanogaster.
