Grain size dependence of annealing strengthening of an extruded Mg-Gd-Zn alloy subjected to pre-compression deformation

Qinghang Wang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the pre-strain annealing strengthening effect on extruded Mg-1.0Gd-1.5 Zn (wt.%) alloy with different grain sizes. The microstructure evolution of the alloy under various conditions was examined using various microscopy techniques. The results showed a grain size-dependent pre-strain annealing strengthening effect in the alloy, with larger grain sizes exhibiting higher strengthening effect due to hindrance of twin growth and increased nucleation of new twins.

Effects of Li addition on the microstructure and tensile properties of the extruded Mg-1Zn-xLi alloy

Jun Zhao et al.

Summary: Li addition has been proven to effectively increase the room temperature ductility and formability of Mg alloys. In this study, the microstructure, texture, and tensile properties of extruded Mg-1Zn-xLi alloy sheets were investigated. It was found that Li addition resulted in grain coarsening and the development of new textures, which improved dynamic recrystallization and increased prismatic slip during extrusion. The addition of Li also enhanced the ductility of the alloy sheets, with Mg-1Zn-5Li sheet showing significantly improved elongation.

Improving the room-temperature bendability of Mg-3Al-1Zn alloy sheet by introducing a bimodal microstructure and the texture re-orientation

Chao He et al.

Summary: The introduction of a bimodal microstructure through pre-compression and annealing significantly enhanced the bendability of AZ31B alloy sheets. The bimodal microstructure broke the damage bands, resulting in a more uniform strain distribution in the outer tension region of the bending samples.
