Nonlinear large deformation of a spherical red blood cell induced by ultrasonic standing wave

Yifan Liu et al.

Summary: A computational model is developed to investigate the nonlinear static deformation of a red blood cell induced by ultrasonic standing wave. The accuracy and effectiveness of the model are verified by comparing the numerical results with the existing theoretical model and experimental data.

Tension Strain-Softening and Compression Strain-Stiffening Behavior of Brain White Matter

Faezeh Eskandari et al.

Summary: The study compared the mechanical properties of brain tissue under compression and tension loading modes, finding that the shear modulus of brain tissue in compression is about 6 times higher than in tension at 20% strain. Additionally, the tissue exhibited strain-stiffening in compression and strain-softening in tension, suggesting different behaviors under different loading conditions.

Homogenization approach and Floquet-Bloch theory for wave analysis in fluid-saturated porous media with mesoscopic heterogeneities

Eduard Rohan et al.

Summary: This study focuses on fluid-saturated poroelastic media governed by the Biot model at a mesoscopic scale, using periodic functions to describe material properties and deriving a formulation based on Floquet-Bloch wave decomposition. The results show good correspondence between wave dispersion results obtained by the Floquet-Bloch approach and those computed using a model derived from asymptotic analysis with respect to the scale parameter.

On the streaming in a microfluidic Kundt's tube

Alen Pavlic et al.

Summary: An analytical solution for acoustic streaming inside a rigid tube generated by a pseudo-standing wave field is derived in this study. The evolution of streaming patterns inside the tube when geometrical and material parameters are varied is then investigated. The analysis reveals that decreasing the ratio of tube radius to viscous boundary layer thickness expands the Schlichting streaming and suppresses the Rayleigh streaming, eventually leading to the disappearance of the latter. Additionally, large-scale Eckart-like streaming can develop near the axis when the ratio approaches unity, while the Schlichting streaming remains at the wall.

A porohyperviscoelastic model for the shear wave elastography of the liver

Yang Zheng et al.

Summary: A porohyperviscoelastic model is presented in this study to address shear wave elastography of soft tissues, with emphasis on the liver. An analytical solution has been derived based on this model, revealing the dependence of wave velocity on constitutive parameters and deformation of the solid matrix generated by internal pressure.

A surface flattening method for characterizing the surface stress, drained Poisson's ratio and diffusivity of poroelastic gels

Zezhou Liu et al.

Summary: Research shows that when a porous poroelastic gel is released from a mold, surface stress drives deformation and solvent migration, flattening the surface profile gradually. By using the finite element method to simulate this process and assuming certain properties of the gel, the drained Poisson's ratio and solute diffusivity of the gel can be obtained.
