Thermofluidic characteristic of a nanofluid-cooled oblique fin heat sink: An experimental and numerical investigation

Badyanath Tiwary et al.

Summary: This study investigates the thermofluidic performance of Al2O3-water nanofluids through oblique fin heat sink microchannels, showing that the combination of nanofluids and oblique fins significantly enhances heat transfer efficiency. The oblique fin microchannel promotes secondary flow and improves mixing, leading to a substantial increase in heat transfer coefficient compared to straight microchannels. Additionally, the inclusion of nanofluids at higher concentrations and Reynolds numbers further enhances heat transfer performance.

Summary: Nanofluid in a mini/microchannel heat sink shows high single-phase enhancement of heat transfer. The Nusselt number reaches the maximum increment at a concentration of 0.01% for Al2O3-H2O nanofluid, and the friction factor increases by 15.1%. Low-concentration nanofluids demonstrate efficient heat transfer under low flow resistance compared to previous studies.

Forced air cooled heat sink with uniformly distributed temperature of power electronic modules

Christian Bunnagel et al.

Summary: The paper discusses an approach to design a forced air-cooling heat sink that can uniformly distribute temperature on semiconductor modules. By modifying a conventional fin-based heat sink, an air guide plate is attached to redistribute airflow through the fins. Numerical simulations show that the proposed approach achieves a good uniform distribution of temperature.

Summary: The study focuses on heat transfer and pressure drop effects of NECPCM and Al2O3 nanofluids in a mini channel heat sink. NECPCM nanofluid shows better heat transfer performance than Al2O3 nanofluid, with lower pressure drop. NECPCM nanofluids perform better at higher flow rates, and there exists an optimal flow rate to achieve maximum heat transfer enhancement and FOM value.

A. Siricharoenpanich et al.

Summary: The study showed that nanoparticles suspended in the base fluid significantly impact the physical properties and flow features of the nanofluid, leading to higher heat removal capacity and lower thermal resistance. Heat sink with lower flow channels demonstrated lower thermal resistance compared to those with higher flow channels. The findings can be used to develop a knowledge base for designing thermal cooling systems for GPUs and other electronic components.

Yacine Khetib et al.

Summary: This study simulated the turbulent flow of a nanofluid in a channel and investigated the effects of factors such as fin shape and nanoparticle shape on the heatsink temperature and pressure drop. The results showed that increasing velocity leads to lower heatsink temperature, and using brick-shaped nanoparticles and circular fins provides the best cooling performance. Additionally, circular fins and brick-shaped nanoparticles require less pressure drop compared to other cases.
