Plasmon-driven photocatalytic properties based on the surface of gold nanostar particles

Yiyuan Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found through experiments and numerical simulations that the catalytic and reduction reaction rates on gold nanostars (GNS) as a substrate are much faster than those of gold nanospheres (GNPs). This is attributed to the abundant nano-branched microstructures on the surface of GNSs generating more and stronger local surface plasma hot spots under the excitation of light.

Au nanoparticles/ZnO nanorods as SALDI-MS substrate for on-plate enrichment and detection of glutathione in real samples

Shuzhen Dou et al.

Summary: The hierarchical substrates synthesized for selective detection of GSH using Au NPs/ZnO NRs as SALDI-MS substrates showed efficient capturing of thiols through Au-S binding and successful isolation of target compounds from complex samples by ZnO NRs as carrier of Au NPs. The Au-ZnO hybrid nanostructures promoted hot electrons transfer at Au-ZnO interface, leading to higher desorption/ionization efficiency. The substrates demonstrated high repeatability, good linearity, and high sensitivity in detecting GSH, showing potential for practical applications.
