A review on ethanol steam reforming for hydrogen production over Ni/Al2O3 and Ni/CeO2 based catalyst powders

S. Anil et al.

Summary: This article examines the impact of modifying nickel with various noble and non-noble metals and altering supports with different metal oxides on ethanol steam reforming (ESR) reaction. It explores the reaction mechanisms and thermodynamics, emphasizing the importance of catalyst morphology, active metal promoter, and support modifier in hydrogen production and carbon deposition prevention.

Effect of the support composition on catalytic and physicochemical properties of Ni catalysts in oxy-steam reforming of methane

Pawel Mierczynski et al.

Summary: This study investigated the catalytic properties of Ni catalysts supported on different oxide surfaces in the oxy-steam reforming process of methane. The Ni/CeO2·La2O3 (2:1) catalyst exhibited superior activity and selectivity towards hydrogen formation, attributed to the high content of Ni species on the catalyst surface. However, the low activity of Ni catalysts supported on La2O3 or oxide with high lanthanum content is due to the strong interaction of NiO with the support.

Elucidation of metal and support effects during ethanol steam reforming over Ni and Rh based catalysts supported on (CeO2)-ZrO2-La2O3

Marinela D. Zhurka et al.

Summary: Rh is more active and selective than Ni, while CeO2-ZrO2-La2O3 efficiently promotes the water gas shift reaction, leading to higher activity, selectivity, and stability in Rh/CeO2-ZrO2-La2O3 catalyst for ethanol steam reforming.

Coke evolution in simulated bio-oil aqueous fraction steam reforming using Co/SBA-15

P. J. Megia et al.

Summary: This study investigates the deactivation of Co/SBA-15 catalyst during the steam reforming of model compounds from the aqueous fraction of bio-oil. The deactivation process occurs in two distinct stages, mainly affected by the amount of coke deposited and its C/H ratio.

Highly active Nd-promoted Ni@Al2O3 core-shell catalyst for steam reforming of acetic acid: Insights of the remarkable coke resistance

Jianglong Pu et al.

Summary: In this study, Nd-doped Ni@A(2)O(3) core-shell catalysts were prepared to enhance the coke resistance of Ni-based catalysts. The catalytic performance was greatly improved by the incorporation of Nd, leading to decreased yields of CO, CH4, and acetone, increased yield of CO2, and remarkable carbon resistance. The Ni0.01Nd@Al catalyst balanced the exposed Ni surface and the mobile lattice oxygen, showing the highest catalytic activity, lowest coke deposition, and superb decoking ability.

Highly active Ni/CeO2 catalyst for CO2 methanation: Preparation and characterization

Ning Rui et al.

Summary: The Ni/CeO2 catalyst prepared via gas discharge plasma and hydrogen reduction shows high activity in CO2 methanation at low temperatures, with excellent CH4 formation rate and redox property. The unique interfacial structure and metal-support interaction lead to the formation of rich interfacial Ni-CeO2 sites, improving the catalyst's performance significantly in H-2 splitting and CO2 activation.

Ru-Ni bimetallic catalysts for steam reforming of xylene: effects of active metals and calcination temperature of the support

Jianglong Pu et al.

Summary: A series of Ru and Ni supported catalysts were prepared and evaluated in the steam reforming of xylenes. The bimetallic 2Ru -> 15Ni catalyst showed superior activity and stability compared to the monometallic catalysts, attributed to the synergic effect of Ni and Ru, with the least coke deposition due to high conversion performance and less coke precursor formation on the catalyst surface.
