A Numerical Study to Control the Combustion Performance of a Syngas-Fueled HCCI Engine at Medium and High Loads Using Different Piston Bowl Geometry and Exhaust Gas Recirculation

Kabbir Ali et al.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the impact of piston bowl geometry on combustion and emission performance in a syngas-fueled HCCI engine for power plant use. Results showed that changes in combustion timing were mainly influenced by the initial temperature of the air-fuel mixture and heat loss rate through the wall. While pistons B and C demonstrated high thermal efficiency, they could not be used due to high maximum pressure rise rate and NOx emissions.

A Comparative Numerical Study of the Combustion Performance of the Syngas-Fueled HCCI Engine Using a Toroidal Piston, Square Bowl Piston, and Flat Piston Shape at Different Loads

Kabbir Ali et al.

Summary: This study investigates the combustion performance of a syngas-fueled HCCI engine with different piston shapes and finds that the square bowl piston D is the optimized shape for low MPRR and high combustion performance. The study highlights the importance of squish flow and reverse squish flow effects on combustion efficiency and thermal efficiency.

A Numerical Analysis of the Effects of Equivalence Ratio Measurement Accuracy on the Engine Efficiency and Emissions at Varied Compression Ratios

Ruomiao Yang et al.

Summary: The study found that CO and NOx are sensitive to equivalence ratio regardless of compression ratio, with high compression ratios having little impact on engine performance and emissions. Excessively high compression ratios may lead to knocking phenomenon and decreased engine stability. It is recommended that equivalence ratio measurement accuracy be higher than 1% and compression ratio be around 11 for precise combustion control and thermal efficiency improvement.
