Fabrication of an amorphous metal oxide/p-BiVO4 photocathode: understanding the role of entropy for reducing nitrate to ammonia

Fengfeng Wang et al.

Summary: The controllable design of the chemical microenvironment plays a crucial role in enhancing catalytic activity and selectivity. This study investigates the effect of entropy on the NO3- reduction reaction in a photoelectrochemical system using an amorphous metal oxide. The results show that the optimized heterostructure significantly improves NH3 production, making it a promising catalyst for future solar conversion systems.

Photoelectrochemical reduction of nitrate to ammonia over CuPc/CeO2 heterostructure: Understanding the synergistic effect between oxygen vacancies and Ce sites

Xia Li et al.

Summary: In this work, a CuPc/CeO2 heterostructure was designed and studied for the photoelectrochemical nitrate reduction reaction (PEC NRR). The role of Ce3+/Ce4+ pairs on the formation of oxygen vacancies (OVs) and the factors affecting the chemical adsorption and activation of NO3- were investigated. The organic-inorganic hybrid matrix in the CuPc/CeO2 heterostructure strengthened the relationship between solar harvest, carriers' separation, and NO3- reduction, leading to high performance.
