Oxygen Deficiencies in Titanium Oxide Clusters as Models for Bulk Defects

Lauren F. Heald et al.

Summary: TD-DFT calculations were performed on neutral TinO2n, TinO2n-1, and TinO2n-2 clusters, and it was found that the partially filled d orbitals of the suboxide clusters have a profound effect on their structural, electronic, and topological properties. Low energy photoexcitations in TinO2n clusters are O-2p to Ti-3d transitions, while suboxide clusters exhibit d-d transitions with smaller optical gaps. The localization of the hole upon low energy photoabsorption is accompanied by a local bond elongation, while d-electrons generally remain delocalized around the cluster.

Boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) decorated Pd-ternary alloy (Pd63.2Ni34.3CO2.5) for H2 sensing

Soo-Min Yoo et al.

Summary: The MEMS-based FET hydrogen sensor utilizes a gate electrode modified with BNNTs-decorated Pd ternary alloy as a hydrogen sensing layer, demonstrating high sensitivity, fast response and recovery time, low power consumption, long-term stability, and a wide detection range. Analysis of the drain current variations at different H-2 concentrations confirms the sensor's potential for H-2 leak detection applications.

Interactions of noxious molecules on a single gold atom decorated an ultra-small carbon nanotube: A density functional theory study

Riri Jonuarti et al.

Summary: This study investigated the interactions of CO, CO2, H2S, NO2, and SO2 molecules on a single gold atom decorated ultra-small carbon nanotube using density functional theory. The results showed strong interactions between the molecules and the nanotube, suggesting the potential development of a sensing material for detecting harmful molecules in the future.
