An experimental investigation on pre-ignition phenomena: Emphasis on the role of turbulence ?

Jiaying Pan et al.

Summary: Pre-ignition is an undesirable ignition event in chemical reactors and engineering systems, affecting chemical kinetic measurements and engine performance. The role of turbulence in pre-ignition phenomena was investigated experimentally, revealing delayed ignition timing and formation of spherical flame kernels under different turbulent flow fields. Pre-ignition formation is closely related to turbulent length scale and laminar flame thickness, featuring deflagration propagation unlike auto-ignition dominated by chemical reactivity.

Effect of hybrid coaxial air and hydrogen jets on fuel mixing at supersonic crossflow

Yuelei Zhang et al.

Summary: The research applies a computational method to examine the impacts of coaxial hybrid air and fuel jets on fuel mixing at supersonic cross-flow, revealing significant improvement in fuel penetration and mixing inside the combustion chamber. The study also confirms that the coaxial injector enhances the spiral feature of the fuel jet, promoting fuel mixing downstream and increasing circulation strength in far away from an injector.

Experimental study on the combustion characteristics of premixed methane-hydrogen-air mixtures in a spherical closed chamber

Yanfei Li et al.

Summary: In this study, premixed combustion experiments were conducted on methane-hydrogen-air mixtures to analyze the flame characteristics, combustion pressure, and ion current signal. The addition of hydrogen influenced the flame front structure and flame stability. The concentration of hydrogen had a significant impact on flame speed and ion current signal under both dilute and rich hydrogen conditions. Turbulence accelerated combustion velocity and resulted in earlier peak combustion pressure, but the difference between peak pressures in laminar and turbulent environments decreased with the addition of hydrogen.
