Artificial neural networking (ANN) analysis for heat and entropy generation in flow of non-Newtonian fluid between two rotating disks

Tie-Hong Zhao et al.

Summary: Mixed convection is a heat transport mechanism in thermodynamic systems that involves the motion of fluid particles influenced by both gravity and external forces. This study focuses on the mixed convective flow of Ree-Eyring fluid between two rotating disks, considering the effects of porosity and velocity slip. The energy equation is modeled with various factors such as heat generation/absorption, dissipation, radiative heat flux, and Joule heating. The results obtained are compared with previous studies, showing good agreement. Interesting physical phenomena such as skin friction and heat transfer are also numerically calculated.

Yu-Ming Chu et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of unsteady viscous flow in a squeezing channel and investigates the flow and heat transfer mechanism of different shapes of silver-gold hybrid nanofluid particles in the base fluid. The numerical solution and parameter analysis reveal that the Yamada-Ota model of the Hybrid nanofluid has a higher temperature and velocity profile, and the performance of hybrid nanoparticles is superior to that of common nanofluids.

Numerical study of droplet breakup in an asymmetric T-junction microchannel with different cross-section ratios

Milad Isanejad et al.

Summary: In this study, numerical simulations are performed to investigate droplet breakup in an asymmetric T-junction microchannel. The results show good agreement with previous studies, and the effects of capillary number, non-dimensional droplet length, and non-dimensional width ratio on the breakup time and splitting ratio are studied. It is also found that the mass center of the mother droplet is shifted to a wider branch, facilitating the asymmetric breakup in the T-junction microchannel.

DPM-LES investigation on flow field dynamic and acoustic characteristics of a twin-fluid nozzle by multi-field coupling method

Bo Chen et al.

Summary: Dust particle pollution poses risks to human health and safety in industry. Twin-fluid atomization technology is crucial in reducing dust particle pollution. This study proposes a fluid-solid-acoustic multi-physics coupling DPM-LES model based on the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) model, the Discrete Phase Model (DPM) model, and the Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings (FW-H) model. The numerical simulation results are compared and validated with experiments. The study investigates the flow field dynamics and acoustic characteristics of a gas-liquid twin-fluid nozzle (TFN) under different operating and SVC structure parameters. It lays a theoretical foundation for the optimal design of TFNs and provides insights for reducing dust particle pollution.

Hovering efficiency optimization of the ducted propeller with weight penalty taken into account

Yu Hu et al.

Summary: The ducted propeller is more efficient in hovering but the heavy structure reduces overall system efficiency, prompting a comparison with open propellers when weight penalty is considered. In this scenario, lighter ducted propellers perform better at low disc loading, while those with higher aerodynamic hovering efficiency excel at high disc loading. The optimization process generates an L-shaped Pareto front, indicating designs that balance aerodynamic efficiency and weight reduction.

Towards applicable photoacoustic micro-fluidic pumps: Tunable excitation wavelength and improved stability by fabrication of Ag-Au alloying nanoparticles

Jiliang Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, photoacoustic micro-fluidic pumps (PMPs) were fabricated using Ag-Au alloy nanoparticles, with tunable LSPR absorption wavelength achieved by adjusting the composition ratios of the nanoparticles. It was observed that the duration of photoacoustic jets excited by 450 nm laser on Ag0.9Au0.1 nanoparticles lasted over 1 hour, contrasting sharply with the jets on Ag0.2Au0.8 nanoparticles under 532 nm laser which lasted less than 1 minute, highlighting the importance of material selection for performance improvement. Further investigation on jetting stability indicated that the enhanced stability could be related to the increased melting-point and thermal stability of the alloys.
