Highly efficient carbon hybrid supported catalysts using nano-architecture as anode catalysts for direct methanol fuel cells

Hakan Burhan et al.

Summary: PtCo-based nanoparticles in alloy structure were synthesized using the microwave-assisted reduction method and deposited on different carbon supporting materials. The MOR activity of PtCo nanoparticles in hybrid carbon support structures was found to be more advantageous than single support structures due to the synergistic effect and larger surface area. PtCo@AC-VC catalyst showed relatively high catalytic activity compared to previous studies.

Recent progress on MXenes and MOFs hybrids: Structure, synthetic strategies and catalytic water splitting

Kusum Sharma et al.

Summary: The emerging class of 2D MXenes is suitable for water splitting as catalysts due to their tunable structures, large surface area, high electrical conductivity, rich surface chemistries, hydrophilicity, and large redox active sites. However, the agglomeration, reduced stability, and recyclability pose limitations. The coupling of MXenes with MOFs provides a preferential environment for hosting MXene to prevent agglomeration. This review showcases the synergistic effects of MXenes and MOFs hybrids and discusses their properties, synthetic strategies, and future challenges.

Fe/Ni bimetallic organic framework with varying anions as robust electrocatalyst for oxygen evolution reaction

Na Wang et al.

Summary: The effects of different anions on the performance of bimetallic FeNi-MOF were investigated in this study. It was found that the MOF prepared with chloride ion exhibited lower overpotential and higher electrochemical stability, which could be attributed to the lower charge transfer resistance, increased active area, and more active sites.

1D metal-dithiolene wires as a new class of bi-functional oxygen reduction and evolution single-atom electrocatalysts

Qingming Deng et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the stability and reaction mechanisms of synthesized one-dimensional transition metal dithiolene wires for the oxygen reduction reaction and the oxygen evolution reaction in acid solution using density functional theory calculations. Our results show that CoDW exhibits high catalytic activity for bi-functional ORR/OER with low limiting overpotentials through four-electron reactions, and by applying uni-axial strain, the adsorption strength of reaction intermediates on transition metal reactive sites can be optimized. These findings provide valuable insights into the rational design of non-precious metal-based electrocatalysts and suggest a new strategy of tuning adsorptions via uni-axial strain to develop efficient bifunctional electrocatalysts for ORR/OER.

Surface reconstruction of CoO (111) and its effects on the formation of oxygen vacancy and OER activity

Ning Ma et al.

Summary: The study reveals that surface reconstruction of CoO (111) enhances OER activity and stability of VO, leading to changes in electron accumulation, bonding state between Co and O atoms, and adsorption of OH. The findings provide a theoretical basis for the design and application of Co-based OER catalysts.
