Temperature control performance of high thermal conductivity metal foam/paraffin composite phase change material: An experimental study

X. K. Yu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the temperature control performance of metal foam/paraffin composite PCM (MFPCM) and improves its directional thermal conductivity through the directional compression of metal foam. The experimental results show that the presence of metal foam significantly enhances the temperature control effect, especially for metal foam after directional compression.

Effect of geometry modification on the thermal response of composite metal foam/phase change material for thermal energy storage

Changda Nie et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of geometry on the melting and solidification behavior of phase change material in vertical shell-tube latent heat storage systems. Different geometries were found to enhance natural convection and conduction, affecting the thermal performance. Geometry modification had little impact on the thermal performance of composite metal foam/PCM, but significantly reduced the melting time of pure PCM.

Heat transfer enhancement of nano-encapsulated phase change material (NEPCM) using metal foam for thermal energy storage

W. Q. Li et al.

Summary: The Foam/NEPCM composite material enhances thermal energy storage by combining the thermal enhancement of metal foam and latent heat absorption of NEPCM, resulting in lower wall temperature and more uniform internal temperature compared to pure NEPCM. The study also found that the lower porosity Foam/NEPCM composite has lower heated wall temperature and internal temperature near the heated wall due to its higher thermal conductivity and area/volume ratio.

Effect of fin-metal foam structure on thermal energy storage: An experimental study

Junfei Guo et al.

Summary: The novel hybrid fin-foam structure shows superior thermal performance compared to other competing structures, significantly reducing complete melting time and improving temperature response rate. Metal foam helps improve temperature field uniformity, while fins have a greater impact on uniformity.

Heat transfer enhancement in latent heat thermal energy storage using copper foams with varying porosity

Jie Lei et al.

Summary: The study shows that incorporating copper foams into PCM significantly enhances the heat transfer performance of LHTES, reducing the full melting time by 73.7% and increasing the average heat flux density from 96.38W to 330.16W. Dividing the copper foam into upper and lower parts and increasing porosity separately along the positive x and y directions is the optimal method, leading to reductions in full melting time and increases in average heat flux density.
