This paper aims to validate selected fatigue criteria by analyzing laboratory experiments on fretting fatigue. The analysis includes 11 fatigue prediction criteria that vary in the way they process stress or strain tensors, correct mean stress, or involve stress gradient correction. The selected criteria reflect engineering practice and are available in commercial fatigue solvers.
The work published in this paper attempts to validate selected fatigue criteria on fretting fatigue laboratory experiments collected from the available literature. The local stress response was analyzed by 11 fatigue prediction criteria, which varied in the way of processing the stress or strain tensors, in the correction of the mean stress, or in involvement of the stress gradient correction. The criteria were selected on the basis of their availability in commercial fatigue solvers and on the basis of the ways in which they are implemented, so that the analysis of published results closely reflects engineering practice.
