The effect of global warming on mortality

Jean Calleja-Agius et al.

Summary: There is a significant relationship between ambient temperature and mortality, with vulnerable groups being more affected. Mortality increases more rapidly per degree rise above 27 degrees Celsius. Global warming will lead to malnutrition and various health problems, and public health measures should include reducing heat exposure and improving urban planning.

Assessment of In-Use NOx Emissions from Heavy-Duty Diesel Vehicles Equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction Systems

Yi Tan et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the NOx emissions of 277 heavy-duty diesel vehicles from three portable emission measurement system testing programs. The research found that some HDDVs had significantly higher NOx emissions than certification standards even under ideal exhaust temperatures. The correlation between emissions and mileage was weak, with some trucks showing extremely high emission increase rates within the first 15,000 miles of operation.

Increasing cardiopulmonary effects of ultrafine particles at relatively low fine particle concentrations

Chen Chen et al.

Summary: This study found that indoor UFPs can still have effects on children's cardiopulmonary function even at relatively low PM2.5 concentrations in Beijing schools. This suggests that in addition to controlling PM2.5, more attention should be paid to the effects of UFPs on health, as well as the control and standard setting for UFPs.

Factors that influence the expansion of electric delivery vehicles and trucks in EU countries

Kornelia Osieczko et al.

Summary: The article discusses the issue of electric vehicles and infrastructure in EU road transport, indicating that the lack of charging stations may be a reason for slow growth in sales of electric vehicles. Additionally, a strong correlation is found between a country's GDP and the number of charging stations available.

Threats of global warming to the world's freshwater fishes

Valerio Barbarossa et al.

Summary: Climate change poses a significant threat to global freshwater biodiversity, with future temperature and flow extremes impacting fish populations, especially in tropical and sub-arid regions where increased water temperature poses a greater threat. Implementing more effective carbon reduction policies can help mitigate the threat to freshwater biodiversity.

The feasibility of heavy battery electric trucks

Bjorn Nykvist et al.

Summary: Research suggests that economic feasibility of heavy battery electric trucks might have been generally underestimated, as high-power fast charging technology can improve performance, especially in heavy loads and energy savings. Previous studies on competitiveness of heavy trucks are sensitive to assumptions about battery cost and lifetime.

Global Warming, Climate Change, and Environmental Pollution: Recipe for a Multifactorial Stress Combination Disaster

Sara Zandalinas et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that an increase in different co-occurring multifactorial stress factors can result in a severe decline in plant growth and survival, as well as a decrease in microbiome biodiversity. This should serve as a warning for society to take action to reduce pollutants, combat global warming, and increase crop tolerance to multifactorial stress combinations.

Experimental Research on Distribution Characteristics of NOx Conversion Efficiency of a Diesel Engine SCR Catalyst

Zhancheng Wang et al.

Summary: The experimental investigation revealed that the distribution of NOx conversion efficiency of the wash-coated selective catalytic reduction catalyst was highly nonuniform at the exit cross section, while the efficiency of the extruded SCR catalyst was more uniform with higher distribution at the center. The comparison experiment with 180 rotation showed that the efficiency distribution map of the wash-coated selective catalytic reduction catalyst rotated 180, but that of the extruded selective catalytic reduction catalyst remained unchanged. The uniformity coefficient of the extruded selective catalytic reduction catalyst was higher than that of the wash-coated selective catalytic reduction catalyst.

Effects of injection timing and rail pressure on particulate size-number distribution of a common rail DI engine fueled with fischer-tropsch diesel synthesized from coal

Limin Geng et al.

Summary: Advancing injection timing or increasing rail pressure leads to higher NOx emissions and lower soot emissions; under low loads, the number concentration of ultrafine particles first decreases and then increases, while it consistently decreases under medium and high loads; coal-based F-T diesel has lower number concentration and smaller geometric mean diameter of ultrafine particles.
