Case Report: Rapid Response to Low-Dose Thalidomide in a Case of Severe Steroid Recalcitrant Erythema Nodosum Leprosum

Bathula Savitha et al.

Summary: Erythema nodosum leprosum (ENL), a type 2 lepra reaction, is characterized by tender erythematous nodules and systemic symptoms. Treatment options for ENL include nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, steroids, thalidomide, and clofazimine. A low-dose thalidomide regimen may be effective in managing severe steroid-resistant ENL.

Mycobacterium leprae Induces Neutrophilic Degranulation and Low-Density Neutrophil Generation During Erythema Nodosum Leprosum

Isabella Forasteiro Tavares et al.

Summary: Erythema Nodosum Leprosum (ENL) is an acute inflammatory complication of leprosy, with a high frequency of low-density neutrophils (LDNs) in ENL patients and an activated phenotype. LDNs are associated with the pathogenesis and severity of ENL, and studies have shown the direct role of neutrophils in ENL.
