Evolution of Phthalocyanine Structures as Photodynamic Agents for Bacteria Inactivation

Mariana B. Spesia et al.

Summary: Phthalocyanine derivatives can act as photosensitizers for the treatment of microbial infections. By modifying the structure and substituents of phthalocyanines, the interaction with microorganisms and photodynamic inactivation can be enhanced. Phthalocyanines have strong absorption and emit red fluorescence in the phototherapeutic window, and they efficiently generate reactive oxygen species to eliminate microbes.

A review of recent advances in magnetic nanoparticle-based theranostics of glioblastoma

Dhruba Dhar et al.

Summary: Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most aggressive and deadly form of brain cancer. The currently available treatment methods often fail to be successful, leading to rapid disease progression and short survival time. Magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) show great potential in targeted treatment of GBM due to their unique physical features. This review discusses the limitations of current therapeutic strategies and the role of MNPs in overcoming these limitations, as well as recent advances and future directions of MNP-based theranostics for GBM.

Photodynamic therapy in the treatment of oral lesions caused by paracoccidiomycosis

Danila Silvana de Alexandria Santos et al.

Summary: Paracoccidioidomycosis is an endemic disease caused by Paracocdioides brasiliensis and Paracoccidioides lutzii, usually presenting as oral ulcers. Complementary local treatments like photodynamic therapy (aPDT) can help alleviate symptoms and promote healing of oral lesions.

Potential of luminescent materials in phototherapy

Monika Nimbalkar et al.

Summary: Phototherapy is a treatment method for skin diseases using light, including artificial treatments like NB-UVB, PUVA, and Targeted phototherapy. Photodynamic therapy is a specialized method using photosensitizers and optical radiations for cancer treatment. The efficacy of these treatments depends on the proper selection of a phototherapy lamp with a specific wavelength of light, and luminescent materials play a crucial role in their application in bioassay and therapy.
