The first selenium containing chitin and chitosan derivatives: Combined synthetic, catalytic and biological studies

Anton R. Egorov et al.

Summary: An ultrasonic approach has been developed for the synthesis of selenium-containing derivatives of chitin and chitosan. The synthetic procedure is simple, efficient, and environmentally friendly. The derivatives show high antibacterial and antifungal activity, surpassing the effect of classic antibiotics. Furthermore, they exhibit promising transfection activity and act as efficient catalysts for alcohol oxidation.

Antibacterial properties and mechanism of selenium nanoparticles synthesized by Providencia sp. DCX

Henglin Zhang et al.

Summary: This study synthesized spherical bio-SeNPs with an average size of 120 nm and demonstrated strong inhibition activity against various model bacteria. The analysis suggested that the antibacterial effects may be achieved through changes in membrane permeability, cell wall disruption, and oxidative damage caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Single-wall carbon nanotubes-chitosan nanocomposites: Surface wettability, mechanical and thermal propertiesEinwand-Kohlenstoffnanorohren-Chitosan-Nanokomposite: Benetzbarkeit der Oberflachen, mechanische und thermodynamische Eigenschaften

M. A. V. Rodrigues et al.

Summary: In this study, functionalized single-wall carbon nanotubes were dispersed in chitosan films to investigate the impact of their concentration on the properties of the resulting nanocomposites structures. The addition of functionalized single-wall carbon nanotubes improved the mechanical resistance of the films by up to 18%, but led to a significant reduction in thermal stability and a decrease in surface hydrophobicity by 25%.

A novel composite membrane pectin from Cyclea Barbata Miers blend with chitosan for accelerated wound healing

Mayang Sari et al.

Summary: In this study, pectin derived from Cyclea Barbata Miers was blended with chitosan to create a novel membrane for potential biomedical wound dressing application. The physico-chemical analysis revealed improved thermal stability and rough surface texture of the chitosan/pectin blend membrane, which also showed better wound closure in in-vivo experiments compared to gauze-treated wounds.
