Chalcogen-doped zinc oxide nanoparticles for photocatalytic degradation of Rhodamine B under the irradiation of ultraviolet light

S. Kumar et al.

Summary: In this study, chalcogen-doped zinc oxide nanoparticles were synthesized and tested for the photocatalytic degradation of Rhodamine B. The results showed that selenium doping significantly improved the photocatalytic performance, with the sample doped with 5 wt.% selenium demonstrating the best degradation and mineralization efficiency.

Biosynthesis of selenium nanoparticles of Monascus purpureus and their inhibition to Alicyclobacillus acidoterrestris

Yuhan Sun et al.

Summary: In this study, selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) were produced during the fermentation process of a selenium-enriched strain Monascus purpureus 2322, and their antibacterial activity against Alicyclobacillus acidoterrestris was investigated. The synthesized SeNPs were spherical with a diameter of approximately 48 nm, and they were found to severely damage the integrity of bacterial cells, leading to leakage of cellular contents. As a result, the growth of A. acidoterrestris was inhibited in the presence of SeNPs, suggesting SeNPs as a potential antibacterial agent against this bacterium.

Twist1 is required for the development of UVB-induced squamous cell carcinoma

Fernando Eguiarte-Solomon et al.

Summary: The transcription factor Twist1 plays a critical role in regulating the balance between proliferation and differentiation of keratinocytes, impacting the development of UVB-induced skin cancer. Deletion of Twist1 in keratinocytes leads to reduced epidermal hyperproliferation and suppresses skin carcinogenesis caused by UVB radiation, indicating Twist1 as a potential target for preventing cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma.

Selenium Nanoparticles for Biomedical Applications: From Development and Characterization to Therapeutics

Claudio Ferro et al.

Summary: Selenium is an essential element for human health, incorporated into selenocysteine in the body and used to synthesize selenoproteins. While it has beneficial properties, excessive intake can lead to toxicity. Selenium nanoparticles are a less toxic alternative for delivering drug payloads to specific cells, with potential applications in cancer therapy.
