Pile optimization in slope stabilization by 2D and 3D numerical analyses

Mohamed Amine Benmebarek et al.

Summary: Numerical computations were conducted to optimize a row of piles in cohesive-frictional slope stabilization using PLAXIS 2D and 3D. Results showed that a fixed pile head at the slope middle improves stability, while piles with free head contribute marginally to the increased factor of safety. In 3D analyses, the spacing ratio between piles significantly affects soil flow and the arching effect.

Development of the scaled boundary finite element method for image-based slope stability analysis

Dakshith Ruvin Wijesinghe et al.

Summary: This paper presents a numerical technique that integrates digital image meshing with the scaled boundary finite element method for geotechnical slope stability analysis. It allows simulation of site conditions such as complex stratigraphies, surface and internal geometry evolution in a robust and straightforward procedure.

Stability Prediction of Residual Soil and Rock Slope Using Artificial Neural Network

Mahesh Paliwal et al.

Summary: This study predicts the stability of jointed rock and residual soil slopes in the Himalayan region using artificial neural network technology. An android application has been developed for real-time stability prediction. Promising results were obtained in predicting the factor of safety and stability state of the slopes.

Mesoscale damage modelling of concrete by using image-based scaled boundary finite element method

Zihua Zhang et al.

Summary: A novel method named improved random walking algorithm (IRWA) is proposed to explicitly build the mesostructure of concrete, allowing users to conveniently control parameters and achieve high volume fraction of aggregate with remarkable efficiency. The approach demonstrates good mesh independence and performance in simulating progressive damage of concrete at mesoscale through four benchmarks.
