Outcomes of traumatised immature teeth treated with apexification or regenerative endodontic procedure: a retrospective study

Andrea Cardoso Pereira et al.

Summary: This study compared the clinical success rates and continued radiographic root development between apexification and regenerative endodontic procedure in traumatised immature permanent teeth. The results showed that regenerative endodontic procedure had significantly greater changes in root width compared to apexification, while both treatments had satisfactory clinical success rates. Continued root development in regenerative endodontic procedure was similar to apexification, except for root width. The apical angle measurement provided a method to assess the convergence of the root canal walls.

Three-dimensional qualitative and quantitative analyses of the effect of periradicular lesions on the outcome of regenerative endodontic procedures: A prospective clinical study

Heeresh Shetty et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the outcomes of regenerative endodontic procedure (REP) on human immature necrotic teeth with apical periodontitis using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). The results showed a high clinical success rate of 94.6% after 48 months follow-up, with significant improvements in root length, pulp space diameter, and periradicular radiolucency. CBCT images revealed various patterns of root maturation, indicating the less predictable radiographic root development in immature permanent teeth with periradicular pathosis treated with REP.

Clinical cell-based versus cell-free regenerative endodontics: clarification of concept and term

L. M. Lin et al.

Summary: There is confusion over the concept and term of clinical regenerative endodontics, with commonly used terms being revitalization and revascularization. The aim of regenerative endodontics is to regenerate the pulp-dentine complex, with current protocols mostly falling under the category of cell-free regenerative endodontic therapy. Repair derived from stem cells has been observed following regenerative endodontic treatments, although ideal regeneration through autologous stem cell transplantation (CB-RERT) is still at the clinical trial stage.

Endodontic regeneration: hard shell, soft core

Matthias Widbiller et al.

Summary: Different organisms and living things react differently to the loss of organs or tissue damage. While some can completely regenerate lost body parts, others react by forming scars for tissue repair. The regenerative capacities of the human body are limited, with only a few tissues fully restored when injured.

Procedures for the Treatment of Necrotic Mature Teeth with Apical Periodontitis: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

Antonios Glynis et al.

Summary: Based on moderate-quality evidence, Regenerative Endodontic Procedures (REPs) appear to be a viable treatment alternative for mature necrotic teeth with periapical lesions. Well-designed randomized controlled trials (RCTs) may provide confirmatory evidence and lay the groundwork for standardizing the therapeutic protocol of REPs.

Prognosis of Regenerative Endodontic Procedures in Mature Teeth: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Clinical and Radiographic Parameters

Pantaleo Scelza et al.

Summary: The study found that Regenerative Endodontic Procedures (REP) showed a high success rate in treating mature teeth with necrotic pulp, reducing periapical lesions and restoring sensitivity. The success levels were similar to those reported for immature teeth, with very low certainty of evidence.

What is the best long-term treatment modality for immature permanent teeth with pulp necrosis and apical periodontitis?

A. Wikstrom et al.

Summary: This systematic review evaluated apexification and regenerative techniques for managing traumatised immature teeth. Results showed similar success and survival rates between the two methods, with regenerative techniques showing superiority in stimulating root maturation. Knowledge gaps were identified regarding treatment and follow-up protocols for both techniques.
