Substituent-Mediated Transformation of Polynuclear Gold(I)-Sulfido Complexes-From Pentanuclear to Octadecanuclear Cluster-to-Cluster Transformation

Liang-Liang Yan et al.

Summary: Polynuclear gold complexes exhibit diverse structures and bonding arrangements, making their transformation a challenging area of research. A substituent-mediated transformation from pentagold(I) to octadecagold(I) complexes has been observed, leading to the formation of gold(I)-sulfido complexes with distinct structures and photophysical properties. This study demonstrates a simple and effective strategy for developing novel luminescent gold(I)-sulfido clusters with controlled structures by manipulating the electronic nature of substituents on the phosphine ligands.

Stimuli-Responsive and Structure-Adaptive Three-Dimensional Gold(I) Cluster Cages Constructed via De-aurophilic Interaction Strategy

Liang-Liang Yan et al.

Summary: Self-assembly of 3D metal-losupramolecular cages has potential for unique stimuli-responsive systems, but constructing 3D gold(I) cluster cages remains challenging. A de-aurophilic interaction strategy successfully resulted in adaptive gold(I) cluster cages with intriguing stimuli-responsive structural transformation. This research provides insight into designing novel 3D supramolecular cages and studying stimuli-responsive interconversion between their unique structures.

Dual Emissive Gold(I)-Sulfido Cluster Framework Capable of Benzene-Cyclohexane Separation in the Solid State Accompanied by Luminescence Color Changes

Liao-Yuan Yao et al.

Summary: A decanuclear gold(I)-sulfido complex exhibits dual green and red emission in the solid state, high stability towards solvent molecules, and high selectivity towards benzene. The framework can encapsulate solvent molecules and shows remarkable solvatochromic luminescence in the presence of benzene and cyclohexane. This work demonstrates the promising capability of gold(I)-sulfido cluster frameworks for the separation of benzene and cyclohexane.

Spontaneous assembly of redox-active iron-sulfur clusters at low concentrations of cysteine

Sean F. Jordan et al.

Summary: Iron-sulfur (FeS) proteins are ancient and fundamental to life, being involved in electron transfer and CO2 fixation. The study demonstrates that FeS clusters can spontaneously form in the presence of the amino acid cysteine under conditions similar to Hadean alkaline hydrothermal vents, suggesting a plausible mechanism for their emergence at the origin of life.

Spatially Controlled Preparation of Layered Metallic-Semiconducting Metal Chalcogenide Heterostructures

Xiaoshan Wang et al.

Summary: Using wet chemical methods, metallic Sn0.5Mo0.5S2 nanosheets were successfully deposited on the edges of semiconducting SnS2 nanoplates, forming lateral heterostructures or core@shell heterostructures. These heterostructures exhibited good light-to-heat conversion ability, with the core@shell structure showing higher photothermal conversion efficiency than the lateral counterpart.

A chalcogenide-cluster-based semiconducting nanotube array with oriented photoconductive behavior

Jiaqi Tang et al.

Summary: This study presents a crystalline nanotube array based on a supertetrahedral chalcogenide cluster, which has the largest diameter reported to date in crystalline inorganic nanotubes, showing excellent structure-dependent electric conductivity and oriented photoconductive behavior. This represents a significant breakthrough in the structure of cluster-based metal chalcogenides and in the conductivity of crystalline nanotube arrays, with an enhancement of about 4 orders of magnitude.
