Hierarchical structural complexity in atomically precise nanocluster frameworks

Xiao Wei et al.

Summary: The hierarchical self-assembly of atomically precise nanoclusters with different arrays was achieved by controlling the adsorbed molecules on the cluster surface. This work demonstrates the selective construction of micrometric linear chains (1D array), grid networks (2D array), and superstructures (3D array) of nanoclusters through the hierarchical self-assembly of Ag-29(SSR)(12) nano-building blocks conjoined with different solvent molecules.

Silver(I) Coordination Polymers Immobilized into Biopolymer Films for Antimicrobial Applications

Tiago A. Fernandes et al.

Summary: This study presents a template-mediated self-assembly synthesis of two new silver-based bioactive coordination polymers, which were then immobilized into acrylated epoxidized soybean oil biopolymer films for antimicrobial applications. The CPs showed promising antimicrobial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, especially in inhibiting biofilm formation. The results suggest potential applications of CP-doped biopolymers in designing functional biomaterials with antibiofilm properties.

Self-Assembly and Multifaceted Bioactivity of a Silver(I) Quinolinate Coordination Polymer

Sabina W. Jaros et al.

Summary: Coordination polymers with bioactive metal centers and linkers, low toxicity, stability, tailorable structures, and bioavailability have emerged as a new class of potent biologically active agents. Quinolinic acid, a potent neurotoxic metabolite, has been utilized as a building block to assemble a new silver(I) coordination polymer with distinctive bioactive features, exhibiting remarkable antiviral, antibacterial, and selective cytotoxic activities. This study expands the family of bioactive coordination polymers with potent antiviral, antibacterial, and antiproliferative activity.

Double-helical assembly of heterodimeric nanoclusters into supercrystals

Yingwei Li et al.

Summary: DNA has long been used as a template for constructing helical assemblies of inorganic nanoparticles, but achieving helices without biological ligands is challenging. Atomically precise nanoclusters protected by ligands demonstrate hierarchical structural complexity, similar to biomolecules. The newly synthesized homodimeric and heterodimeric gold nanoclusters self-assemble into superstructures, with heterodimeric clusters forming more complex helical superstructures driven by van der Waals interactions. The surrounding ligands on the clusters contribute to the assembly through paired steric interactions.

Molecular reactivity of thiolate-protected noble metal nanoclusters: synthesis, self-assembly, and applications

Qiaofeng Yao et al.

Summary: "Thiolate-protected noble metal nanoclusters exhibit molecule-like properties, behaving as molecular entities and displaying structurally sensitive molecular reactivity to ions, molecules, and other nanoclusters. Their molecular interactions and reactions are crucial for applications in various fields, yet there is a lack of systematic summary in the current literature. Advances in synthesis and characterization techniques allow for the production of noble metal nanoclusters with molecular purity and precise atomic resolution, revealing active sites for molecular interactions and reactions. Understanding and utilizing these interactions and reactions in synthesis, self-assembly, and applications can increase the acceptance of metal nanoclusters in various fields."
