Association between contraceptive use and risk of lower urinary tract infection (LUTI): A case-control study

Jana Heidemann et al.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the association between widely used contraceptive methods and lower urinary tract infections (LUTI) in gynecological practices in Germany. The results showed that the general use of contraceptive methods, injectable contraceptives, and oral contraceptives were negatively associated with LUTI manifestation. In contrast, the use of emergency contraceptives was positively associated with LUTI manifestation.

Association between antiseizure medication use and risk of urinary tract infection: A case-control study

Jana Heidemann et al.

Summary: This study reveals that certain antiseizure medications (such as PHT, CBZ, VPA, etc.) are associated with an increased risk of urinary tract infections, while other drugs (such as OXC, topiramate, gabapentin) have a relatively less significant risk. The immunological and hematological side effects of these molecules may play a crucial role in the development of UTI during anticonvulsant therapy.

Association between antihypertensive treatment and adverse events: systematic review and meta-analysis

Ali Albasri et al.

Summary: This study found no evidence of an association between antihypertensive treatment and falls, but did find evidence of an association with mild (hyperkalaemia, hypotension) and severe adverse events (acute kidney injury, syncope). These findings can be used to guide shared decision making between doctors and patients, especially in high-risk patients with previous adverse events or poor renal function.
