Heteromolecular pigmentations of plant-derived catechol and their application on textiles

Yintung Lam et al.

Summary: The study developed a sustainable textile coloration method inspired by the strong adhesion feature of DOPA in mussel adhesive proteins. By biomimicking pigmentation with different combinations of naturally derived catechol and amino acids, a diverse range of colors could be generated and attractive coatings formed. The method demonstrated low toxicity and highly reproducible colors.
