A recent study reveals that dendritic cells inhibit the clearance of skin debris during the uptake of apoptotic cells, and the elimination of this inhibition can accelerate wound healing.
Apoptotic-cell uptake (efferocytosis) by dendritic cells (DCs) has been mainly linked to their antigen presen-tation property. In a recent issue of Nature, Maschalidi et al. identified a break to efferocytosis in DCs, the inhibition of which improves skin debris cleansing after a wound, accelerating healing.
