Spall Fault Quantification Method for Flight Control Electromechanical Actuator

Mohamed A. A. Ismail et al.

Summary: Flight control electro-mechanical actuators (EMAs) are crucial for the reliability and safety of unmanned aerial vehicles. This study develops a vibration-based fault quantification method for fatigue faults in the ball-screw mechanism of an EMA. The method identifies the ball passing instants through a localized surface defect using vibrational jerk measurements.

An intelligent fault diagnosis method for an electromechanical actuator based on sparse feature and long short-term network

Jing Yang et al.

Summary: Electromechanical actuators (EMAs) have a significant impact on the safety of aircraft as the new generation of actuators. A semi-supervised sparse auto-encoder (SSAE) is employed to prune observed data and improve fault isolation accuracy, while a multi-channel long short-term network is used to explore temporal and spatial relationships for fault detection and isolation. Verification results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method in diagnosing EMA faults.

A time-dependent dynamic model for ball passage vibration analysis of recirculation ball screw mechanism

Mengtao Xu et al.

Summary: A general time-dependent dynamic model for describing ball motion and axial periodic micro fluctuation within a ball screw subjected to external load is proposed in this study. The effects of applied load, preload, and screw rotational speed on dynamic response are discussed theoretically, and reducing vibration amplitude is suggested through small ball diameter and phase difference between ball groupings. The proposed model is experimentally validated.
