Design, modeling and experiments of a novel biaxial-pendulum vibration energy harvester

Hu Lou et al.

Summary: This paper develops a novel biaxial pendulum vibration energy harvester that can adapt to different directions of vibration excitation by allowing the pendulum to rotate around two axes. Magnets and coils are distributed on the surfaces of the pendulum and the shell to achieve a compact structure. The relationship between the vibration excitation and the output voltage is modeled based on dynamics and electromagnetic analysis, and the accuracy of the model is verified through testing of a small-scale prototype.

The dynamics of an omnidirectional pendulum harvester

Philipp Sommermann et al.

Summary: The dynamics of a spherical pendulum with translational support excitation in three directions, operating under generic forcing conditions, is investigated. An optimization procedure is proposed to select ideal parameters for experimental programs leading to an optimized pre-prototype. The power take-off and its effect on the pendulum's dynamics are also analyzed using Bifurcation diagrams and Poincare sections.

Counterweight-pendulum energy harvester with reduced resonance frequency for unmanned surface vehicles

James Graves et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a novel electromagnetic pendulum energy harvester with a counterweight for harvesting low frequency vibration from ocean waves. The design allows for a natural resonant frequency reduction without increasing length, enabling high power output at lower frequencies. Experimental results demonstrate linear relationship between the ratio of lengths of pendulum arms and reduction of natural frequency of the system, showcasing its potential for energy harvesting in ultra-low frequency marine environments.

Resonant Frequency Reduction of Vertical Vibration Energy Harvester by Using Negative-Stiffness Magnetic Spring

Tao Wang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a method to reduce the resonant frequency of vibration energy harvesters by adding a negative-stiffness magnetic spring, allowing them to adapt to low-frequency ambient vibrations. Comparisons between energy harvesters with and without the negative-stiffness magnetic spring show that the resonant frequency of the vertical energy harvester can be reduced as expected without an increase in initial spring deformation.
