Intelligent Reflecting Surface Aided Full-Duplex Communication: Passive Beamforming and Deployment Design

Summary: This paper investigates the passive beamforming and deployment design for an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) aided full-duplex (FD) wireless system. The goal is to minimize the transmit power consumption of the system by optimizing the transmit power and reflection coefficients, subject to rate constraints and uni-modulus constraints. The analysis shows that the FD system outperforms the HD system, and the distributed deployment is more effective than the centralized deployment. An efficient algorithm based on the block coordinate descent (BCD) method is proposed to solve the power minimization problem.

An alternating algorithm is proposed to jointly optimize the BS transmit beamformer and RIS phase shift matrix to maximize radar detection probability. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of RIS in improving radar detection probability while managing interference.

Joint Waveform Design and Passive Beamforming for RIS-Assisted Dual-Functional Radar-Communication System

Summary: The dual-functional radar-communication (DFRC) technique is considered a promising component in emerging platforms, but waveform design limitations can lead to high multi-user interference (MUI) and degraded communication performance. Inspired by Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS) applications in mitigating MUI, this paper investigates joint waveform design and passive beamforming in RIS-assisted DFRC systems. Simulation results show that with RIS assistance, system throughput can be significantly improved and the obtained beampattern matches the target transmit beampattern better than scenarios without RIS.
