Salivary Alpha-Amylase Activity in Relation to Cardiometabolic Status in Japanese Adults without History of Cardiovascular Disease

Ai Ikeda et al.

Summary: The study found that salivary alpha-amylase was positively associated with fasting glucose, 2-hr postload glucose, homeostasis model assessment index for insulin resistance, systolic and diastolic blood pressures in women. These results suggest that the elevation of salivary alpha-amylase may reflect a dysfunction of the sympathetic nervous system associated with cardiometabolic abnormalities in women.
