Primary intra-abdominal melanoma arising in association with extracutaneous blue naevus: a report of two cases

Kabeer Shah et al.

Summary: This study reported two cases of melanoma arising in extracutaneous blue naevus, with unique clinicopathological and molecular genetic features. The tumors presented with different morphologies and both patients developed widespread metastatic disease, highlighting the importance of distinguishing these rare aggressive melanomas from other entities for appropriate management and prognosis.

Clinicopathological study of blue nevi of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract: first case series

Naziheh Assarzadegan et al.

Summary: Blue nevus (BN) is a benign melanocytic proliferation that is typically cutaneous, but can also occur in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract as reported in this study. Most cases in this series occurred in middle-aged adults, predominantly females, with lesions primarily in the rectum and colon. Endoscopically, lesions appeared as superficial hyperpigmented areas or abnormal mucosa, while microscopically, bland spindle cells with granular pigment were observed without atypia. Follow-up of five patients showed no recurrences, emphasizing the benign nature of GI tract BN.
