Long-term durable anion exchange membranes based on imidazole-functionalized poly(ether ether ketone) incorporating cationic metal-organic framework

Jiahui Ren et al.

Summary: In this study, poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK) was synthesized and functionalized to prepare the polymer matrix. Cationic UiO-66-NH2 metal-organic frameworks were used as fillers to prepare hybrid membranes. The experimental results showed that the hybrid membranes exhibited excellent alkali stability and higher ion conductivity, indicating great potential for application in the field of anion exchange membranes.

Tailoring the morphology of polyethersulfone/sulfonated polysulfone ultrafiltration membranes for highly efficient separation of oil-in-water emulsions using TiO2 nanoparticles

Christine N. Matindi et al.

Summary: PES/SPSf/TiO2 mixed matrix membranes were fabricated for oil-in-water emulsion separation using non-solvent induced phase inversion technique. The addition of TiO2 nanoparticles and variation of polymer concentrations resulted in membranes with excellent water permeability, oil rejection, and permeance recovery rate. Molecular dynamic simulations and spectroscopic analyses showed that the TiO2 NPs formed hydrogen bonds with polymer chains, leading to desirable morphological changes in the membranes.

Sulfonated Polysulfone/TiO2(B) Nanowires Composite Membranes as Polymer Electrolytes in Fuel Cells

Maria Jose Martinez-Morlanes et al.

Summary: New proton conducting membranes based on sulfonated polysulfone (sPSU) reinforced with TiO2(B) nanowires were successfully synthesized and characterized in this study. The addition of TiO2(B) nanowires led to improved thermal properties, water uptake, and proton conductivity, making it a promising candidate for proton exchange electrolyte in fuel cells, especially those operating at high temperatures.
