Hellandite-(Y)-hingganite-(Y)-fluorapatite retrograde coronae: a novel type of fluid-induced dissolution-reprecipitation breakdown of xenotime-(Y) in the metagranites of Fabova Hol'a, Western Carpathians, Slovakia

Martin Ondrejka et al.

Summary: Two distinct reaction coronae were observed around rare earth element phosphates in Variscan metagranitic rocks in the Western Carpathians, Slovakia. The breakdown of primary magmatic monazite-(Ce) resulted in the formation of fluorapatite, clinozoisite, allanite-(Ce), and secondary monazite-(Ce). The alteration of xenotime-(Y) led to the development of a novel secondary corona composed of large fluorapatite crystals and tiny satellite crystals of hellandite-(Y) and hingganite-(Y).

The parisite-(Ce) enigma: challenges in the identification of fluorcarbonate minerals

Manuela Zeug et al.

Summary: The study explored the structural and compositional complexity of rare earth element fluorocarbonates, focusing on their correct assignment to mineral species. By utilizing various methods, the study revealed syntactic intergrowth and distinct physical characteristics such as BSE intensity and Raman spectroscopy among different mineral species. A non-destructive method for differentiating between parisite-(Ce) and rontgenite-(Ce) was proposed based on the comparison of their CO(3) stretching band height ratios.
