Summary: The study investigates sources and production of atmospheric nitrate in coastal East Antarctica using isotopic composition. It found that atmospheric nitrate in summer is associated with snowpack emissions of NOx and in winter, there is mixing between stratospheric and tropospheric sources contributing to nitrate. The study also suggests oxygen isotopes of nitrate could be more sensitive to changes in surface ozone compared to bromine oxide concentrations.
