Effects of pressure on the chemical looping combustion of coal with CuFe2O4 combined oxygen carrier

Baowen Wang et al.

Summary: By studying the reaction between high sulfur content Chinese bituminous coal and CuFe2O4 under pressures of 0.1-3.0 MPa, it was found that increasing system pressure can improve coal conversion rate, facilitate oxygen transfer to CuFe2O4, and promote interactions between sulfur and CuFe2O4.

Sorption enhanced steam reforming of ethanol over Ni-based catalyst coupling with high-performance CaO pellets

Yongqing Xu et al.

Summary: The study successfully improved the quality of H-2 gas produced during the sorption enhanced steam reforming (SESRE) process of ethanol by coupling novel CaO-based porous spherical sorbents with conventional Ni/Al2O3 catalyst. The results showed that the sorption enhanced steam reforming process is an effective and flexible way to produce high-quality H-2 around 600 degrees C, and the simulated sorption enhanced process was experimentally validated.

Hydrogen production from absorption-enhanced steam gasification of Enteromorpha prolifera and its char using Ce-doped CaO material

Xianyao Yan et al.

Summary: The study investigated H-2 production performances from Enteromorpha prolifera and its char using Ce-doped CaO material for absorption-enhanced steam gasification. The presence of CeO2 in the CaO material improved H-2 production from Enteromorpha prolifera, and facilitated electron conductivity on the CaO surface, promoting various reactions. Ce-doped CaO material maintained porous microstructure and fine particles during cycles, showing promising prospects for H-2 production from Enteromorpha prolifera and its char.

Development of a cordierite monolith reactor coated with CeO2-supported BaSrCo-based perovskite for chemical looping steam methane reforming

Dingshan Cao et al.

Summary: In this study, cordierite monolith reactors coated with Ba1-xSrxCoO3-delta/CeO2 were prepared for chemical looping steam methane reforming (CL-SMR). The introduction of honeycomb ceramics effectively inhibited methane pyrolysis and carbon deposition, ensuring the H2/CO ratio of syngas was close to the theoretical value of 2. Results showed that the novel cordierite monolith reactor coated with perovskite oxide provided a promising oxygen carrier choice for the industrial application of CL-SMR.

Regeneration of deactivated Fe2O3/Al2O3 oxygen carrier via alkali metal doping in chemical looping combustion

Zhong Ma et al.

Summary: In this study, alkali metals (potassium, sodium) were used to regenerate deactivated oxygen carriers, with potassium showing rapid regeneration of redox performance and reaching optimal regeneration at a 5% doping ratio. The addition of alkali metals improved gas-solid reactions by forming a porous structure in the deactivated sample, enhancing surface adsorbed oxygen, and increasing oxidation ability. Further increases in potassium content beyond 5% did not significantly affect the regeneration of the deactivated oxygen carriers.

Synergistic reaction investigation of the NiO modified CaSO4 oxygen carrier with lignite for simultaneous CO2 capture and SO2 removal

Baowen Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a NiO modified CaSO4 oxygen carrier with a desired core-shell structure was successfully prepared, enhancing its reactivity. Experimental evidence confirmed that the modified gypsum ore activated the reduced nickel in the residual char and oxidized it back to active NiO, while fixing the released sulfur gas from side reactions. The prepared NiO modified CaSO4 oxygen carrier showed promising resistance to sintering and good regeneration for potential application in real chemical looping combustion systems.
