Highly active iron-promoted hexagonal mesoporous silica (HMS) for deoxygenation of triglycerides to green hydrocarbon-like biofuel

Suraya Zulkepli et al.

Summary: The interest in sustainable hydrocarbon-like biofuel production is increasing, and Fe/HMS catalyst has shown potential in efficiently producing diesel-range biofuel. The catalyst's performance is attributed to well-dispersed Fe in the hematite phase, interaction between Si-OH and Fe-O bonds, acidity, surface area, and pore size enhancements. This result indicates Fe/HMS catalyst as a potential DO catalyst for renewable hydrocarbon-like biofuel production.

Advanced biofuels from waste cooking oil via solventless and hydrogen-free catalytic deoxygenation over mesostructured Ni-Co/SBA-15, Ni-Fe/SBA-15, and Co-Fe/SBA-15 catalysts

Norshakirah Ahmad Rashidi et al.

Summary: Waste cooking oil is an attractive feedstock for producing advanced biofuels due to its low cost and abundant availability. This study focused on the synthesis and analysis of mesoporous bimetallic catalysts for the catalytic deoxygenation of waste cooking oil. The results showed that the catalyst with 10% Ni-Fe/SBA-15 had the highest liquid yield but low selectivity towards the diesel fraction, while the catalyst with 5% Ni-Co/SBA-15 had the highest selectivity towards the diesel fraction.

To enhance water resistance for catalytic ozone decomposition by fabricating H2O adsorption-site in OMS-2 tunnels

Wei Hong et al.

Summary: An innovative Li-K-OMS-2 catalyst with specific non-oxygen vacancy sites was reported for improved water resistance in ozone decomposition applications. This catalyst showed superior performance with only a 10% decrease in ozone conversion after 6 hours of reaction under high humidity conditions, outperforming currently documented MnO2-based catalysts. The findings represent a critical step towards the rational design and synthesis of high water-resistant catalysts for ozone decomposition.

Summary: This study successfully prepared mesoporous supported nickel catalysts with high activity and stability in DRM reaction through a one-pot synthesis method. By using spray pyrolysis-assisted evaporation-induced self-assembly, the catalysts with highly dispersed nickel active sites were obtained in one step. Furthermore, the performance of nickel catalysts was further optimized by employing phase segregation and exsolution strategies.

Efficient catalytic conversion of jatropha oil to high grade biofuel on Ni-Mo2C/MCM-41 catalysts with tuned surface properties

Xiangze Du et al.

Summary: By tuning the carbon content, the activity of Mo2C-based catalyst on vegetable oil conversion into biofuel can be greatly promoted, while the modification mechanism on the surface properties remains unclear. This study demonstrates that regulating the CH4 content in carbonization gas can effectively adjust the exposed active sites, particle size, and Lewis acid amount of Ni-Mo2C/MCM-41 catalysts, leading to improved catalytic performance in vegetable oil conversion.

Highly stable and selective catalytic deoxygenation of renewable bio-lipids over Ni/CeO2-Al2O3 for N-alkanes

Lin Fu et al.

Summary: The addition of Ce improves the catalytic activity and stability of Ni/CeO2-Al2O3 catalysts in the deoxygenation of bio-lipids by weakening the interaction between Ni and Al through the formation of oxygen vacancies. Ce addition increases weak and medium acidity while decreasing strong acidity, effectively preventing the hydrocracking of C-C bonds.

Insights into the Reaction Routes for H2 Formation in the Ethanol Steam Reforming on a Catalyst Derived from NiAl2O4 Spinel

Jose Valecillos et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the satisfactory performance of a Ni/Al2O3 catalyst derived from NiAl2O4 spinel in ethanol steam reforming. The reaction for H-2 formation in this system primarily occurs through two paired routes activated by metal and acid sites, limited by selective catalyst deactivation. At 500 degrees C, the main route involves ethanol dehydration on acid sites followed by ethylene decomposition on the Ni-Al2O3 interface, while at 600 degrees C, the gasification reaction of carbon species reduces the formation of carbon material.

Oxygen-vacancy mediated acidity and redox properties on WOx/Cu-doped CeO2 for the removal of NOx

Zhifei Hao et al.

Summary: The novel WOx/Cu-CeO2 oxide catalyst shows great deNOx activity advantage and wide operating temperature window in NH3-SCR, with good sulfur resistance and N2 selectivity. The introduction of Cu into the lattice of CeO2 increases surface Ce3+ and oxygen vacancy concentration, providing more sites for capture and dispersion of WOx species, thus enhancing the Lewis and Bronsted acid sites and reducibility of the catalyst. XPS and DFT calculations demonstrate enhanced electronic interaction between WOx and Cu-doped CeO2 due to short-range interactions of Ce-O-Cu and Ce-O-W, indicating potential Langmuir-Hinshelwood and Eley-Rideal reaction pathways in the NH3-SCR reaction over the WOx/Cu-CeO2 catalyst.
