Pore Development During CO2 and Steam Activation of a Spent Tyre Pyrolysis Char

Juan Zhang et al.

Summary: The experimental study focused on the activation of spent tyre pyrolysis char using CO2 and steam, with results showing that higher temperature, activation agent concentration, and longer reaction time can lead to higher carbon conversion and surface area. Micropores were created in the early stage of activation, with steam-activated chars exhibiting higher BET surface areas and more pores compared to CO2-activated chars.

The transformation and fate of sulphur during CO2 gasification of a spent tyre pyrolysis char

Juan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the transformation of sulphur in spent tyre pyrolysis char during CO2 gasification using XPS. The results showed that gasification temperature, time, and CO2 concentration had significant effects on the species and content of sulphur in the char samples. The main sulphur species shifted from ZnS and aliphatic sulphide to organic sulphur compounds like thiophene, sulphoxide, and sulphone after gasification, while the inorganic sulphur content decreased.

Different Crystal Forms of ZnS Nanomaterials for the Adsorption of Elemental Mercury

Yang Yang et al.

Summary: ZnS is a promising sorbent for recovering Hg-0 from industrial flue gas due to its excellent Hg-0 adsorption capacity. The specific surface area and S active sites were found to be key factors in determining Hg-0 removal performance, with S-S-x showing a high affinity for Hg-0 adsorption.

Utilisation of spent tyre pyrolysis char as activated carbon feedstock: The role, transformation and fate of Zn

Isabelle Jones et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigates the effect of Zn, ZnO, and ZnS on the physical properties of spent tyre pyrolysis chars (STPC) and their transformation mechanisms during CO2 activation. The research found that both ZnO and ZnS act as catalysts during activation, increasing surface area, pore volume, and burn-off. Additionally, it was observed that Zn is progressively removed from activated carbon at temperatures between 950°C and 1050°C.
