Hydrocarbon emission control of a hydrocarbon adsorber and converter under cold start of the gasoline engine

Changling Feng et al.

Summary: The study proposed a HC adsorber and converter system for hydrocarbon emission control during cold start. Numerical simulations were conducted to investigate the effect of key structural parameters on HC adsorption and conversion performance. The dual layer HCAC was found to be the better scheme for both adsorption and conversion of HCs, with certain parameters providing optimal performance.

Effects of zeolite molecular sieve on the hydrocarbon adsorbent and diffusion performance of gasoline engine during cold start

Lehan Chen et al.

Summary: The adsorption characteristic and diffusion properties of MOR, MFI, and CON zeolites used in hydrocarbon catcher were studied in this work. Numerical simulation results showed that CON zeolite has the best adsorption performance for benzene component, while MFI zeolite performs better for ethylene component. The study also revealed that high temperature has a significant impact on the adsorption capacity of zeolites.

Experimental and simulation study on the effect of ZSM-5 hydrocarbon catcher on the emission of gasoline engine during cold start

Changling Feng et al.

Summary: By studying the application of ZSM-5 zeolite as a HC adsorbent in cold start emissions of gasoline engines, it was found that the adsorption efficiency was high in the first stage, but most of the adsorbed hydrocarbons were desorbed afterwards. The total adsorption efficiency in the whole cycle was 26.2%. The results showed that ZSM-5 had good adsorption performance for cold start of gasoline engines.

NOx emission performance assessment on a perforated plate-implemented premixed ammonia-oxygen micro-combustion system

Tao Cai et al.

Summary: This study examines the NOx emission characteristics of a premixed micro-combustion system with a perforated plate implemented. The model developed involves a detailed chemical-kinetic mechanism and shows that the flow field, conjugate heat transfer, and preferential diffusion effect play key roles in the NOx emission variation in the recirculation zones.

Mitigating NOx emissions from an ammonia-fueled micro-power system with a perforated plate implemented

Tao Cai et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effect of implementing a perforated plate on NOx emissions in ammonia-fueled micro-power systems, finding that an optimized perforated plate can significantly reduce NO emissions due to the formation of a low flame temperature recirculation zone. Additionally, increasing hole width helps minimize NO generation, while hole position variation leads to an opposite trend in NOx emissions.

Effects analysis on hydrocarbon reduction efficiency of a beta zeolite catcher in gasoline engine during cold start

Dandan Han et al.

Summary: A new post-processing device-HC catcher was designed in this study, which showed significant effect in reducing HC emissions during cold start of a gasoline engine, but the trapping efficiency decreased with increase in exhaust temperature. Additionally, the adsorption capacity of the HC trapping material was limited and temperature-sensitive, as revealed by molecular simulations on beta zeolite.

Enhancing heat transfer performance analyses of a hydrogen-fueled meso-combustor with staggered bluff-bodies

Tao Cai et al.

Summary: This study aims to improve the energy conversion efficiency of a thermo-photo-voltaic system by optimizing combustor performance through the use of staggered bluff-bodies. The implementation of staggered bluff-bodies significantly enhances heat transfer performance and increases mean wall temperature. Results also show that the equivalence ratio and dimensions of the staggered bluff-bodies have a significant impact on system performance.
